Websites<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Freesound.org\" href=\"http:\/\/www.freesound.org\">Freesound.org<\/a> &#8211; Freesound is a wonderful resource for <a title=\"About Creative Commons\" href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/about\/\">Creative Commons<\/a> Licensed sound effects and musical loops. The Freesound library is huge and it feels like a strong community of artists.\u00c2\u00a0 Freesound provides color coded waveform visualizations of each sound prior to download.\u00c2\u00a0 Their search engine is powerful and their content has even been used in major motion pictures.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Looperman\" href=\"http:\/\/www.looperman.com\/royalty_free_loops_site_map.php\">Looperman<\/a> &#8211; The Looperman <a title=\"Looperman Search Engine\" href=\"http:\/\/www.looperman.com\/royalty-free-weird-synth_loops-g-35-c-4.html\">search engine<\/a> provides quick access to a large selection of royalty free loop downloads.\u00c2\u00a0 The rest of the Looperman site is filled with tutorials and useful links.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Freeloops.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.freeloops.com\">Freeloops.com<\/a> &#8211; Freeloops provides wav and mp3 files of many different instruments and styles.\u00c2\u00a0 Their library is somewhat limited but there is some decent material available.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Free stuff\" href=\"http:\/\/www.peaceloveproductions.com\/freeloops.html\">Peace Love Productions<\/a> &#8211; Peace Love Productions has a monthly free download pack for electronic musicians.\u00c2\u00a0 They also sell high quality music loops.<\/p>\n<p>2. Remix Contests<\/p>\n<p>Remix contests are a great way to get high quality loops from your favorite artists.\u00c2\u00a0 Musicians will sometimes post stems (loops) from their tracks and encourage people to download and experiment with them.\u00c2\u00a0 This gives the musician more visibility and gives fans a new way to experience their favorite music.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Peace Love Remixes\" href=\"http:\/\/www.peaceloveproductions.com\/remix.html\">Peace Love Productions<\/a> &#8211; Assorted free remix contests<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Beatportal\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beatportal.com\/remix\/\">Beatportal Remix contest List<\/a> &#8211; Not free, but a very good selection of well known musicians.\u00c2\u00a0 $3.99 per remix pack.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Radiohead\" href=\"http:\/\/www.radioheadremix.com\/\">Radiohead remix contest<\/a> &#8211; an example of a well known band hosting a remix contest.<\/p>\n<p>3. Magazines<\/p>\n<p>Magazines such as <a title=\"MusicTech\" href=\"http:\/\/www.musictechmag.co.uk\/\">MusicTech<\/a>, <a title=\"Computer Music\" href=\"http:\/\/www.computermusic.co.uk\/\">Computer Music<\/a> and <a title=\"Future Music\" href=\"http:\/\/www.futuremusic.co.uk\/\">Future Music<\/a> include free DVDs filled with high-resolution royalty free samples, loops and software that you can use for your creations.\u00c2\u00a0 While I strongly encourage purchasing these magazines to support the creators, you should also be aware that bookstores regularly discard outdated unsold magazines as well as the DVDs included with it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Loops for sale<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Royalty free CD\/DVDs<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"SONIVOX\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sonivoxmi.com\/ProductList.asp?new=1&amp;pg=LoopLine&amp;mnu=LayLoopLine&amp;Grp=LoopLine\">SONIVOX<\/a> &#8211; These guys sell loops and wave table packs for samplers.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"BigFish Audio\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bigfishaudio.com\/\">BigFish Audio<\/a> &#8211; A good selection of high quality loops.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Sony Loops and Samples\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sonycreativesoftware.com\/loop_libraries\/\">Sony Loops and Samples<\/a> &#8211; A decent roster of well known and unknown artists.\u00c2\u00a0 A good collection of loops.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Motion Samples\" href=\"http:\/\/www.motionsamples.com\/index.php\">Motion Samples<\/a> &#8211; Motion Samples have a large collection of hip hop and dance music loops for your remixing pleasure.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Guitar Center\" href=\"http:\/\/www.guitarcenter.com\/Sound-Libraries--Loops-and--Refills-Software,Page-1.gc?ipp=15\">Guitar Center <\/a>&#8211; Guitar Center has a good selection of high quality loop libraries from many producers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Cutting the breaks<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>There will be times when you&#8217;ll want to grab a swanky drum break from your favorite funk song and use that as a loop.\u00c2\u00a0 Here are a few free software programs to help you get started.<\/p>\n<p>Mac:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"full-width\" style=\"line-height: 14px; An introduction to loop creation.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Scratch\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LGrchxm_BBU\">Scratch (documentary)<\/a> &#8211; Essential viewing material.\u00c2\u00a0 Discusses DJing and creating loop based music with records.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Recording and editing<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you want to record your own loop material, you can start by learning more about recording from the sources listed below.<\/p>\n<p>Years ago I made a song entirely out of sounds at a grocery store.\u00c2\u00a0 The drum track was shoping carts being stacked and the melody was created by the sound of the scanner at the register.\u00c2\u00a0 Vocals were all incidental conversations recorded at the store.\u00c2\u00a0 Don&#8217;t feel limited by standard instruments.\u00c2\u00a0 Anything that makes a sound can be used as an instrument and any recorded sound can be looped.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"How to record a loop\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eqmag.com\/article\/so-you-wanna\/Jul-04\/2084\">So You Wanna Make a Loop <\/a>&#8211;
